Relentless Suzuki’s Alastair Seeley is preparing and looking forward to his first full season in the MCE British Superbikes Championship in addition to taking part in the famous North West 200 road race.
Seeley won the 2009 Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc title for the team after taking nine wins out of the ten races he took part in before moving onto the Superbike. Due to his hectic schedule his racing will be cut down on the Irish scene this year with him possibly taking part in one or two races, if at all.
Talking about what he’s been doing since last year he said: “I relaxed once the season finished, I took a month off and went to Australia with some of the guys. Once I was back it was a case of getting back to it.”
“It is going to be even more competitive and harder this year so I have had to push my fitness level up. I’ve got a new motocross, but it’s been a bit hard to get out on that with the weather and this month is busy with award dinners.”
With regards to the year ahead he said: “I got a bit of an insight to the Superbike at the end of last season and I got the ride for this year at the last round. I wanted a few changes done on the bike just for myself and the team have worked it around more to my liking.”
“We’re testing in Spain at the beginning of March for possibly four days split between two tracks. This will be a good chance to get everybody working together and give us time to gel as a team and get to know one another.”
“I think at first I will just ride round and get a feel for the bike, I’ve not been on a bike since on October. It will be a case of blowing the cobwebs away and getting the mileage on track, then start searching for a good base setting. It is also good to have Michael [Laverty] as my team-mate, I am sure I will learn something from him.”
