AGB Transport/Packet Media’s Robbie Brown is unlikely to race at all this year due to funding, but is already working on his return which will more than likely be 2011.

Brown said: “I won’t be racing for at least three quarters of the season, if at all. I have been working non stop to secure funding for 2011, but with budget cuts from my existing sponsors, and no new sponsors wanting to come on board, the best solution for me is to take a season out. I can save up as much money as possible, and then hopefully come back strong in 2011 in whatever class I can afford.

“I completely appreciate that taking a year out will move me out of the limelight, but I think if there was ever a good time to do it, its now. There will be a lot of familiar faces missing this year for the same reasons as myself. As you can appreciate, I am frustrated with my decision but my hands are tied.”

Brown was one of the main title contenders in 2009 in the British Supersport Cup Championship, in which he eventually took third after a couple of disappointing results at the end of the season. Brown who led the championship at one stage stood on the podium a total of seven times taking two wins.

Reviewing last season, he said: “Last year was a frustrating year for me. I learned so much about how to setup a bike for Supersport, but unfortunately budgets didn’t allow us to have a competitive machine, even for the Cup series. Running around in 20th position is not where I want to be, but without the money and the machinery, it’s impossible to prove any potential.”

Intending to make the most of his spare time Brown said: “I aim to save up as much as possible, train hard and keep in touch with all the major teams as a stand in rider. Fingers crossed something will come off for me. Prior to this season I have been training more than ever, which is strange considering I am not racing.

“To keep busy I have entered numerous half marathons and running races around the country to keep me motivated and keep my mind in some sort of adrenaline racing game. I have never been a natural runner, but always enjoyed it. For sure, it’s not even close to what I want to be doing, to be a full time racer and have the money for competitive machinery, but until then I will still push to be the fittest in BSB.”
