MSS Kawasaki's Michael Rutter has once again insisted he doesn't prefer to race in the rain but still seems to get results when the wet weather comes, as demonstrated by his debut British Superbike podium for his new team at Brands Hatch yesterday.
The soon-to-be-40 veteran was in a dice with eventual winner Jon Kirkham and second-placed man Alastair Seeley for most of the 30-lapper but just lost out in the very tricky conditions which saw title challengers Tommy Hill and Michael Laverty crash out.
“It was horrible out there in the race, especially without traction control. One wrong move on the throttle and the bike would spin up and come around on you. I’m so happy to get on the podium in my first race for the MSS Bathams team, the conditions helped as I wasn’t completely comfortable with the bike in the dry and the damp track certainly helped me. I don’t wish for wet races, but I do seem to get good results in them! The aim of this weekend was to get a few strong finishes and points, so I’m over the moon to be leaving with a podium although it is a shame for the fans the second race was cancelled," said the Midlander.
