Fixi Suzuki's Leon Camier topped the timesheets on the second and final day of World Superbike testing at Phillip Island despite a 140+mph crash which saw his Suzuki land in some trees.

In the morning, the former BSB Champion had already gone half a second under the record of 1'31.785 set by Max Biaggi last year but the Andorran resident went out again on a softer tyre but crashed at the super-fast Swan corner - the final turn onto the start/finish straight.

“The day started off really well and we got down to some good times. The bike felt really comfortable, we improved it a little bit chassis wise and the electronics are slowly getting better. We also did a race run, I was not really pushing it, but just trying to be comfortable and the keep the lap-times consistent," said Camier.

"We can still improve the race pace and I think I can do a bit of that through my riding. At the end of the day we had a massive crash when I was pushing for a really fast lap – I just got caught out by the wind. The bike was absolutely totalled, so the boys have got a lot of work to do tonight! Hopefully we’ll be back up to speed as soon as we get back on track on Monday.”

It proved an expensive weekend for the Fixi Suzuki team with four big crashes – but they know they're fast. Jules Cluzel didn't ride after spending the night in hospital with his gashed arm. Tom Sykes and Carlos Checa also didn't ride.

Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli was a tenth slower than Camier, while Jonathan Rea was third,a further tenth behind. Marco Melandri and Michel Fabrizion rounded out the top five.
