Smith gets points in lonely estoril race

Britain's Bradley Smith picked up a handful of world championship points in Portugal this afternoon after a lonely 125cc outing which saw him finish 12th, two places behind team-mate Estebe Rabat.

The Oxfordshire teenager started the race from 15th on the grid and was putting in steady, consistent lap times throughout. Towards the end, he managed to pick up his pace and was lapping within two tenths of the leaders, and half a second fast than his team-mate.

Spaniard Pol Espargaro picked up his first podium in the 125cc class and led for a four laps before succumbing to the inevitable slipstream overtake you get here and ended up third. Hector Faubel stole the win on the line as he used the draught from team-mate Gabor Talmasci's bike.

Mattia Pasini led away from the lights and pulled a gap on the field but lost the front andcrashed mid-race going into the notorious final chicane. He remounted and managed to finish eighth.

Danny Webb got his best finish of the year so far, taking his De Graaf Honda into 20th place from a grid lsot of 29th.
