2016 PI Classic: ‘No pressure’ on Hillier after track debut

Isle of Man TT star James Hillier made his Phillip Island debut during practice for the 2016 AMCN Classic event and says he is looking forwaes to racing as there is no pressure on him.

“Phillip Island definitely is different to what I thought and seen on TV that’s for sure. As most circuits are they look a lot different to a telly screen to physically riding it yourself. It took a little while to get things dialled, as I am learning a new bike with different tyres on a new track,” said Hillier, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“For the last session yesterday it felt good and I was joining things together. In saying that, I could have definitely done with some more laps today. It’s not the end of the world, I’m not too fussed as there is no pressure on me. I’ll just do my best and see what happens. I haven’t really followed anyone yet around the track, so with a bit of a tow tomorrow I could be in the ball park. We’ll work as a team and see what we can do.

“Hopefully I can do Team UK proud and get some good finishes. In regards to a finishing result, I haven’t really thought about it. Just as long as I can be close to my team and back them up. It’s been a while since I have ridden competitively on a short circuit. After qualifying tomorrow morning I’ll set my own target and take it from there. I’ll just keep it level headed and won’t punch above my weight. Last thing I want to do is throw the bike down the road. I’ll just play it sensible and see how the races go I guess.”
