2016 PI Classic: Qualifying delay ‘right decision’ for McGuinness

Isle of Man TT legends John McGuinness has backed the decision to delay qualifying for the 2016 Phillip Island Classic after heavy rain hit the Australian track today.

“Yesterday was fine. Every session I went out in I turned the laps until the chequered flag came out and never made any adjustments. I have ridden here for the last two years and the track is still the same, so yeah I was happy. I was looking forward to qualifying today, but it didn’t end up happening for anyone. To travel twelve thousand miles around the world and sit in the garage all day I didn’t expect that in Australia. But you can change your knickers but you can’t change the weather,” said McGuinness, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“There is nothing you can do about it at all. All the banging heads and changing tyres and all the yapping in the garage has been done all day. I think the right decision has been made to qualify tomorrow. We just need to familiarize our self with the track. Qualifying is hugely important. It may be a bit of a pissing competition for a few of them at the front, but for me I would be happy to be on the first few rows and go and get stuck in and do the racing. I’m looking forward for tomorrow. We’ll regroup and go again.”
