Dean Harrison wrapped up his road racing season in superb style on Bank Holiday Monday when he added the Superbike Classic TT race win to the Supersport victory he took around the Mountain Course in June.

Riding the Silicone Engineering ZXR Kawasaki, Harrison came into the race as the undoubted favourite having won the corresponding race twelve months ago and he was never headed leading from start to finish.

Despite admitting his first lap wasn’t his greatest, an opening lap of 125.475mph gave him a 19s lead over Gary Johnson and with the fastest lap of the race second time around, 126.041mph, he doubled that advantage.

Although he was able to ease back in the closing stages, his eventual winning margin was a massive 1m03s to further prove his dominance.

“I don’t know if it was because of the long delay or the lack of practice on the bike but I made a poor start to the race to be honest. Sometimes you go out and don’t quite feel 100 per cent and I felt a bit wooden on the first lap but I eventually got dialled in and felt comfortable out there," said Harrison.

“I got a good lead early on and felt I could go faster if I needed to but, at the same time, these are old bikes so I kept the revs down and started short shifting to make sure we kept going until the end. The team have worked mega all fortnight, like they have done all year, and the bike was faultless.

“There was the odd damp patch but other than that, conditions were really good and it was nice to have some cloud cover as the sun can cause a few problems when you’re racing in the evening around here. The marshals and fans were all waving on the last lap so a massive thanks to them as it meant a lot.”

It was Harrison’s fourth Classic TT victory in total following on from his success in 2013 (Formula Classic), 2015 (Senior Classic) and 2017 (Superbike Classic) but he now reverts back to the short circuits as he contests the final four rounds of the British Superbike Championship.
