2018 Classic TT: Junior win leaves Herbertson speechless

Despite not normally being able to stop talking, Dominic Herbertson was left almost speechless after winning Monday’s Junior Classic TT race with the 27-year old fulfilling the road racing potential he’s shown in recent years.

With strong results on modern day machines at both the TT and Ulster Grand Prix, Herbertson has also taken to the Classic machines with aplomb and after good results for the Davies Motorsport Honda team in 2017, he delivered them the race win after taking over the lead from early pace setter Michael Rutter who retired with a rear wheel puncture.

A fastest lap of 104.082mph saw him hit the front at half race distance and he eventually took the win from Jamie Coward by ten seconds.

“I can’t believe it’s happened to be honest and to be standing here now as a winner around the Mountain Course is like a dream come true,” the Northumbrian said afterwards. “I had an outstanding bike beneath me but Michael (Rutter) is obviously a fantastic rider and having won the race last year, he set off with the same intention.”

“I got a board from someone over the Mountain saying P2 which was a great help and unfortunately for Michael he had to retire. That’s how Classic racing can go sometimes and whilst you need to have a fantastic bike and your own talent, you also need to have a bit of luck and today was my day. I’ve worked so hard for this and to actually win the race is a feeling like no other.”
