Good weather conditions – at last – greeted competitors for practice at the Classic TT on Saturday morning and it was local rider Andrew Dudgeon (ACR Kawasaki) who set the fastest lap of the week in the Superbike Classic category with a lap of 122.846mph.

The additional session, brought about by poor weather during practice week, saw Michael Rutter (Winfield Yamaha) first to complete a lap at 118.483mph followed by the Team York Suzuki pairing of Gary and David Johnson at 120.480mph and 119.387mph respectively. However, it was Paul Jordan (Mistral Racing Kawasaki) who was quickest at 120.716mph, just ahead of Jamie Coward (Kraus Racing Kawasaki) on 120.711mph.

Dudgeon also lapped in excess of 120mph on his opening lap with Horst Saiger (Greenall Racing Kawasaki), and Conor Cummins (Padgetts Yamaha) next quickest. Danny Webb lapped at 115.572mph on the 500cc Team Classic Suzuki but Josh Brookes was an early retirement as he stopped at Laurel Bank on his opening lap.

Meanwhile, leading New Zealand Superbike rider and Mountain Course debutante Jay Lawrence impressed with a lap of 110.300mph on the Carl Cox Motorsport/Team Classic Suzuki Katana.

Second time around and the good course conditions could be seen as the speeds increased with former Manx Grand Prix winner Dudgeon impressing with a lap of 122.846mph to top the leaderboard. Gary Johnson went second quickest with a speed of 121.533mph closely followed by Cummins (121.360) and Derek Sheils (Greenall Racing Kawasaki) at 121.184mph. Jordan though retired at Quarter Bridge with team-mate Davey Todd stopping at Creg ny Baa.

In the Lightweight Classic TT class, it was Lee Johnston (Padgetts Honda) who set the initial pace at 114.610mph which put him five seconds clear of Ian Lougher (Laylaw Racing Yamaha) on 114.117mph.

Adam McLean, Michael Sweeney, Gary Vines and Joey Thompson all lapped above 110mph but McLean’s second lap of 114.701mph put him quickest, just half a second clear of Johnston’s whose second lap was 114.646mph. Vines’ second lap of 112.407mph placed him fourth on the leaderboard.
