2018 Macau GP: Hickman cruises to third win

Peter Hickman cruised to his third Macau Grand Prix today in an excitement-free race with only Michael Rutter able to give the TT lap record holder any kind of competition.

Hickman passed Rutter for the lead on four on the start/finish straight and then kept a one-second gap to his Bathams team-mate before getting the hammer down on lap three to pull a gap and secure the win in a race that was red-flagged after a crash involving Phil Crowe and Ben Wylie.

After struggling to pass both Gary Johnson and Danny Webb, PBM Ducati’s Martin Jessopp bagged the final podium spot after both Hickman and Rutter dropped into the 2’24s lap bracket.

Webb, on the Penz13.com BMW, looked like he had the pace to go with at least Rutter early on but just couldn’t hold on as Jessopp came through but he did manage to remain in front of Briggs Kawasaki’s Johnson, who is riding in pain after cracking a vertabrae at Brands Hatch last month.

Horst Saiger nicked sixth place from Australian Davo Johnson with Derek Sheils pinching eighth from Davey Todd on lap nine. TT legend John McGuinness completed the top ten on his return to Superbike competition.
