Donington WSBK: Grip issues cause problems for Davies

GoldBet BMW’s Chaz Davies found the World Superbike weekend ‘tough’ and was not really ever in contention of a podium finish, after grip issues proved to be a factor once again for the rider this weekend at Donington Park.

The Welshman finished in eighth position in race one, and managed to find a better set-up with his bike to improve and crossed the line in sixth in race two. But tyre issues are still casusing a problem for the rider, and his team are now looking into the situation so that he can be competitive for the next round at Portimao in Portugal.

“Both races were tough and we definitely made a step in the right direction for grip and in the second race, but it only lasted thirteen of the twenty three laps, and it dropped off again like it did in race one. Not only did the grip drop off but I lost turning and changed direction all of the same time. So we went from a podium contention group to just hanging in there to doing a pace of my own, and that was all I had today,” said Davies, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the circuit.

“Unfortunately that was as good as it was, I wouldn’t say we nailed it in the set up but I tried all I could, but I lost time in sector two, and I was trying all weekend to cut our losses there. In the end we did find something in the last race, but it was not good enough consistently so we need to work on that. Chassis balance going out of the slow corners needs to be developed, and at Donington we struggled with a lack of grip, so that needs to be sorted.”
