Aprilia World Superbike star Eugene Laverty has inducted into the Antrim Gallery of Sporting Legends alongside names like rugby player Willie John McBride and champion jockey AP (Tony) McCoy.
The gallery features the achievements of the county's Olympic and Commonwealth champions, as well as those who have achieved at the highest level within their sport or contributed greatly to sport in the borough.
The first 12 inductees are: the late Alvin Carson (hockey), Stephen Daley (football - Futsal Visually Impaired, Maeve and Sean Kyle (athletics and hockey), Eugene Laverty (motorcycle racing), Mairead Magill (camogie), Jim Montague (boxing), Allen McKnight (soccer), Liz-Anne Walshe (netball), Mark Winters (boxing), Willie John McBridge (rugby), AP McCoy (horse racing).
"It's a real honour to join the Sporting Legends alongside athletes from mainstream sports. They've all achieved so much and I feel that I'm only just starting out! It makes me proud to see my name in the gallery and I'd like to thank the Antrim Borough Council for recognising my achievements in this way," he said.
