MotoGP Jerez test: 'Track miles' required for Ellison

PBM Aprilia's James Ellison is looking to get in as much track time as possible during the next two days of MotoGP testing at Jerez in order to get back up to speed with using carbon brakes and the newer-spec tyres Bridgestone have introduced for the 2012 season.

The Kendal man last used the formerly high-tech items when he rode for Tech3 Yamaha in 2006's MotoGP season and has been on steel discs every since. It is also only the team's second full day of testing after their recent sojurn to Motorland Aragon was nullfied by it being windy and bloody freezing.

"We just need some track miles and to get a base setup. I think when James has had a night's sleep and the chance to think about loads of things, including the brakes, we will make a jump forward tomorrow if the weather stays nice," said crew chief Mick Shanley, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening as an Aprilia engineer loomed over his laptop.

"With carbon brakes you almost have to brake the opposite way round to the way you would with steelies, so it can take some getting used to. We've got work to do but he had some good feedback today and did 61 laps so we will aim for the same again tomorrow but the weather looks a bit sketchy. It's been positive so far."
