Both Jonathan Rea and Leon Camier have been taken to hospital after a totally avoidable crash in the opening Nurburgring World Superbike race that has left the Irishman with a broken femur and Camier undergoing a CT scan on his neck.
Both riders had big crashes within seconds of each other at the same corner after Federico Sandi's Pedercini Kawasaki blew up and spilt oil. A lap later, Rea was first to hit the oil and career into the gravel and then Camier had the same crash, both riders were tangled in their bikes during the incidents.
Race direction didn't stop the race after the oil was down, prompting a backlash from the paddock and from former riders, including Andrew Pitt, who called them 'a joke' on Twitter.
As soon as we have more information on Rea and Camier's respective conditions, we will get it to you.
