Amor knocks off the rust with Scottish Championship double

Falkirk’s Keith Amor and the RigDeluge Road Racing team got their 2015 season up and running in victorious fashion at the weekend with a brace of victories at Knockhill.

After receiving a late call from Honda to act as reserve rider for the opening round of the World Endurance Championship at Le Mans, France, Amor made a swift return to Knockhill, where he firstly commenced filming for the team’s movie ‘Roads Closed’, which is due out later this year. He also presented the team’s bike, which was donated to an armed forces charity last year and raised £45,000, to its lucky winner who also received an on-track lesson from Amor.

It was then on to the race weekend where, competing in the second round of the Scottish Championship, Amor was primarily using the meeting as a shakedown prior to this weekend’s Tandragee 100 road races. Having his first competitive race outing since sustaining a number of injuries at last year’s Ulster Grand Prix, Amor qualified sixth on the RigDeluge Road Racing BMW Superstock machine.

Despite the intermittent weather conditions, which left some parts of the circuit wet and some dry, a good start in the first race allowed Amor to make his way to the front of the group and with a series of consistent laps, he was able to open up a gap and claim his first win of the 2015 season by 2.3s from Tim Hastings.

The second race later in the day followed a similar pattern and with further changes to the set-up of the BMW S1000RR, Amor was able to lap quicker than what he’d ever done before around the 1.2-mile circuit and duly brought the bike home for his – and the team’s – second win of the day. His winning margin this time was 3.8s.

“Knockhill’s a very special circuit for me as it’s where my career started and everyone involved in the running of the meetings are fantastic people so it was nice to get some good track time under my belt this weekend,” said Amor.

“It’s still very early in the season but the International road races are just around the corner and whilst we’re still fine tuning the set-up of the bikes, the team’s coming together really well and we’re in good shape.

“We got some much needed track time this weekend on the Superstock bike and I really enjoyed the weekend. Once I’d got to the front, I managed to open up a bit of a gap in each of the races and take a couple of good wins but it felt good to be out there racing again after such a long lay off. I’m obviously a bit rusty and we’ve a big test coming up this next weekend at the Tandragee but we’ve got the first race under our belts now and the build up to the North West 200 and TT is heading in the right direction.

“Like I say, the team’s coming together really well and I’m really looking forward to getting out on the roads now so a big thank you to everyone at RigDeluge Road Racing, Dunlop, Motul and all of the team’s sponsors.”

Amor now heads to Castle Combe for a two-day test on his Supersport machine with Dunlop before heading back north to present three bikes to the CLIC Sargent charity that the team are heavily involved with this year. He’ll also take in a stage of the Granite City rally with Quintin Milne in the RigDeluge CLIC Sargent livery before taking in his next race meeting, the Tandragee 100 road races, which take place on Saturday 2nd May.
