Assen BSB: Race weekend stats, facts and pub ammo

This is the sixth consecutive year the MCE British Superbike Championship has visited Assen with ten races having been held thus far.

Josh Brookes (3) has taken the most wins followed by Shane Byrne and Leon Haslam (2) and Alex Lowes, James Ellison and Josh Waters (all 1).

Byrne has the most podiums with six followed by Brookes (4), Ellison (4), Lowes and Ryuichi Kiyonari (3) and Haslam and Tommy Bridewell (2).

Ellison has finished on the podium at Assen in three of the last four races.

In total, six riders have taken race wins with 13 different riders standing on the podium.

Haslam won both races in 2016 scoring a maximum of 50 points followed by Byrne (40), Jason O’Halloran (27), Dan Linfoot (26), Ellison (25) and Luke Mossey and Michael Laverty (both 20).

Out of the other Showdown contenders, Peter Hickman only scored two points at Assen last year with 14th in race two whilst Jake Dixon (injury) and Josh Brookes (WorlSBK) were non-starters.

Last year saw five of the six Showdown contenders finish in the top five of each race.

Haslam (17) led the most laps followed by Byrne (8), Ellison (6), O’Halloran (3) and Mossey (2).

The quickest ever lap at an Assen BSB meeting was set by Shane Byrne who set a time of 1’35.724s in Q3 last year.

The lap record remains in the hands of Josh Brookes who lapped at 1’36.904s in the first race of 2015. Byrne set the fastest race lap in 2016 with a time of 1’37.149s.

The closest winning margin came in last year’s second race when Haslam beat Byrne by 0.010s.

The biggest winning margin came in the second race of 2013 when Ellison beat PJ Jacobsen by 9.283s.

Kawasaki have the most BSB wins at Assen with 4 followed by Yamaha (3), Suzuki (2) and Honda (1).

Kawasaki won both races in 2016 with Haslam whilst Yamaha’s last wins came in 2015 when Brookes also did the double.

Suzuki last tasted victory with Josh Waters in 2014 with Alex Lowes giving Honda their last victory in 2013. Ducati, however, have yet to win a BSB race at Assen.
