Assen WorldSBK: Laptimes ‘comfortable’ for Laverty

Milwaukee Aprilia’s Eugene Laverty is able to lap ‘comfortably’ at a pace good enough to secure an automatic place in tomorow’s Assen WorldSBK Superpole two and believes he should be able to fight it out with the two Pata Yamahas for a top-five finish.

Laverty made some big progress with the RSV4 during a test at Aragon, and both he and Lorenzo Savadori were well inside the top ten after two free practice sessions at the Circuit Van Drenthe.

“It’s by far our best Friday position of the year. We were seventh this afternoon and doing those laptimes comfortably rather than sometimes this year we have had to treat free practice two like Superpole as we needed to get into that top ten,” said Laverty, speaking at the track.

“The bike is feeling much better and the work we did at the Aragon test has been a big step. Our pace is looking pretty good, we have a chance to fight with the guys we are aiming for. Yamaha is the first target as Kawasaki and Ducati are quite a bit stronger right now, so we will try and fight in that top five.”
