Brands BSB: Cooper wants to be seen as championship 'threat'

Buildbase BMW’s Richard Cooper finished the MCE British Superbike race two on the second step of the rostrum at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and off the back of his win at the last round at
Oulton Park the S1000RR rider wants to be seen as ‘a threat’, and as a real contender for the championship.

Cooper is fourth in the overall standings and is in Showdown contention with 74 points to his name already this season, and eight podium credits too.

The diminutive racer just missed out on a podium in race one and was fourth at the flag, and it has been a positive weekend for his team, with his crew only having to make minimal changes to the BMW.

“The whole weekend for me has been great and we have made minimal changes to the bike all weekend. Race one was frustrating but I didn’t really have an answer for these guys [Byrne and Haslam] and I knew that I had to make the most of the front row start for race two,” said Cooper at the circuit.

“In race two Ellison came past and he had a really good pace and then his bike broke and I nearly rammed him up the backside and then I thought it is down to me. The pace I had was 46.0 and 45.9 and I thought if they want to come with me then so be it and then I heard the Ducati and I thought that can only be Shakey.

“His last couple of laps were very impressive and it clear that he was not going to let that race win go. I hope these guys see me as a threat because I intend to be here all year long and I think I have got every chance of doing it.”
