Brands BSB: Guiver destroys lap record in Ducati Cup sweep

Rob Guiver picked up where he left off last month at Snetterton with a Ducati Performance TriOptions Cup double victory, smashing his own lap record in the process.

The series leader dominated this weekend and stretched his lead in the championship on his home circuit, where he suffered a big accident near the end of last year that left him with a misshapen bike and broken bones.

But the Ducati Romford/Hyside Racing rider quashed any doubts with a flag-to-flag victory in race one from pole position.

Guiver took off early and immediately began stretching an advantage when the lights went out, while Zoek Racing Team’s Sean Neary and Highsparks Motorsport man Phil Atkinson slotted into second and third.

While he began taking chunks out of his own lap record from last year and eventually set the new mark of 1’29.823, Boast Plumbing’s Levi Day levered South African Atkinson aside to take third as Atkinson fell into a battle with team-mate Lewis Rollo.

But there was no stopping Guiver, who crossed the line over two seconds clear of Neary and over four ahead of Day to take his fourth win of the season.

In race two, Guiver was back on pole and off into the distance before long, pulling 1.3s over Rollo and Day after just one lap.

There was no stopping the championship front-runner as he extended an advantage of over seven seconds by lap 10 of 12, rolling off and eventually taking the flag 6.346s clear of Scotsman Rollo, who held off Neary by a mere 0.066s after the latter passed Day for third on the final lap.
