Brands BSB: Hickman crowned Riders Cup champion

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Peter Hickman is the new MCE British Superbike Riders Cup champion, after securing seventh in the overall series.

The road racing star won the opening race on Saturday in wet conditions at Brands Hatch, and finished third on the rostrum in race two, which meant he was able to bag some valuable points to go towards clinching the trophy.

It has been a strong season for Hickman and he ended the year with an impressive 233 points. He was victorious in the opening round of the year at Silverstone, and was part of history when his JG Speedfit team completed the podium with a one, two, three at Oulton Park. Now he is off to Macau with the aim of being back in the BSB paddock for 2017.

“I am over the moon. It has been a really tough season but a strong season - we only just missed out on the Showdown by a small margin. But it has been such a strong year for me and we have scored over 200 points which is mega. A seventh place is deserved for not only myself but the team as well,” said Hickman at the track.

“Massive credit to the team and a thank you for everyone who has supported me. This weekend has been a pretty big highlight for myself, the win a the start of the year was good and the triple the team did at Oulton Park was something that has never been done before. Fingers crossed I can come back next year and better it again.”
