Brands BSB: Hobbs does the Ducati double

Dennis Hobbs enjoyed the perfect start to the defence of his Ducati TriOptions Cup crown with a winning double, though in the first of the two races he had run second on the road to Rob Guiver, who was later excluded on a technicality. Guiver rode hard to avenge that next time out, but Hobbs just had the edge.

Guiver led throughout Saturday’s opener but throughout he was kept at full stretch by Hobbs and at the end of a gripping 15 lapper there was only inches, or more precisely 0.066secs between them. Marty Nutt, the title winner of a couple of years ago, ran third, but some time after the champagne spraying celebrations it was all to change.

Post race technical inspection found that Guiver’s bike was fitted with a non-homologated front disc and he was duly excluded from the results – ironically, the rider had questioned the part, he said, when he saw it had been fitted, but, it mattered not, his hard ride counted for nothing. Hobbs was awarded the race, over Nutt with Leon Morris taking third ahead of Sean Neary and Robbie Brown.

Nutt made the early break in the Sunday race, leading the first couple of laps before Hobbs took charge to lead the rest of the way while adrift of him Guiver was working through the pack from seventh on the opening to lap to be third at half distance, then taking second from Nutt with four laps to go. Neary was again fourth from Greg Gilfillan.
