Brands BSB: 'I just had to man up' - Dixon

Knockhill winner Jake Dixon admits he had to tell himself to buck up and get on with the job today as he powered to the final front-row spot in qualifying.

Just two weeks on from a victory in Scotland, the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki rider led both Q1 and Q2 today, only missing out on pole position by 0.140s in Q3.

But after realising he was provisionally sitting on the second row, Dixon says he was forced to dig deeper and find more speed.

“I saw my board and I was in fifth and I was like, ‘Wow, I’m already on the limit’,” he said. “I just had to bite the screen and man up and get on with it.

“We’ve just been struggling a bit in qualifying, but no excuses, these boys rode great. I’m not saying I could go as fast as them, but I feel like I did a good job to get on the front row and I’m happy with that.”

Although he doesn’t have a stellar blue riband class record on the Brands Hatch GP circuit, Dixon believes he’s found the race pace he needs to battle at the front tomorrow.

But no matter the pace, he admits he’ll be happy if he can take home two trophies.

“I’ve done my work through practice for the race and I know where I’m at with the race pace and it’s pretty strong. If I can come away with two podiums I think that’d be really good.”
