Brands BSB: Iddon bags 2017 Riders Cup trophy

Christian Iddon took home the 2017 MCE British Superbike Riders Cup trophy for his Tyco BMW team, after finishing seventh in the overall standings.

It was a strong end to the season for the Stockport rider as he made it on to the rostrum, not once, but twice with a second place finish in race one and another second place podium in race two at Brands Hatch.

This season Iddon missed out on a spot in the coveted showdown and was blighted by injury this year after a big crash at Knockhill. He had to miss the Scottish round and also the double-header at Snetterton.

But he fought back and developed the S1000RR with his team and finished the year on 238 points. Iddon is now focusing on next season in BSB and is staying with the Tyco BMW outfit for 2018 and has plans to make it into the top six to fight for the championship title.

“For me winning the Riders Cup is not personally a great achievement because it means I wasn’t in the showdown but it is really great for some kind of pay back for the Tyco BMW squad who have really given it their all this year and we are going to work hard to make sure we are in the championship proper next season,” said Iddon at the circuit.

“It is just a shame how the middle of the season panned out but it is great to end the season on a high. We raced really well and the guys have given me a great bike and it is definitely a direction we can go in next season. I am a huge believer that hard work pays off and this weekend we have shown strong pace.”
