Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon was leading the MCE British Superbike championship going into the third round of the series at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, but wins for JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam and Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne at the track meant that the Stockport rider dropped to third overall.

But the S1000RR man is feeling ‘positive’ after his team were able to improve his bike in the final race, and even though he is a tad ‘disappointed’ that he did not make it on to the podium he is happy that he left the Kent track with a good setting on his BMW.

Iddon came away from the Indy circuit with an eleventh and seventh place finishes. He is pleased with the progress that his team made as he was not comfortable onboard his machine in race one, but his crew turned that around and worked quickly on the starting grid to make some late set-up changes that worked.

“It is disappointing after such a strong start to the season but I don’t want to lose sight of what our goals are and that is to be in the Showdown,” said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

“It was a difficult weekend but I am going home really positive because I struggled all weekend to get the feeling that I wanted with the bike and just not felt that it has been underneath me. In the last race we changed a couple of things actually on the grid.

“It was last minute changes and credit to the boys to actually doing that for me, as it was a rushed decision and they did it and from the first lap it was a different motorbike. I improved my consistent pace and it was a quarter of a second quicker than it was in race one and my best lap was half a second quicker than in race one.

“In the last race I could actually race the bike and it felt like mine again. We have got to make the most of every opportunity, and because the calibre of competition in BSB is so immense if you
are slightly off it don’t half make you look bad, but you are still not doing something bad it is just that everyone else is so flipping fast.

“Eleventh and seventh was not what I came here to gain. Eleventh was my maximum in race one and race two we had a bit more to be fair but starting thirteenth was never going to be that easy, but I am going home feeling positive with the feeling that I had, and I am pretty happy.

“At the moment we are three rounds in and we are P3 and that is pretty good and I am happy. I would be going home a bit disappointed if I had gone home with the sensation that I had in race one, but the sensation I had in race two was way different and it was a completely different motorbike and I am happy with that.”
