Brands BSB: Kennedy pips Currie to Supersport pole

Jack Kennedy stormed to the lead in this morning’s Dickies British Supersport qualifying session as he beat championship leader Ben Currie to pole position.

The Irishman came out with guns ablaze as he put his Integro Yamaha R6 at the of the charts with an early 47.0s lap, with Currie and EHA Racing’s Ross Twyman just behind.

And Kennedy went one better shortly thereafter as he was the first rider to dip into a 46s lap with a 46.784, while Jamie Perrin slotted into second with a 47.067, pushing Gearlink Kawasaki’s Currie back to third.

Currie hit back a few laps later, however, when he stuck in a 46.728 to take provisional pole and push Kennedy back to second.

But Kennedy returned fire after a brief trip to the pits to snatch the top spot back with a 46.522 and then further increase the mark with a 46.462.

Points leader Currie looked to be on a late charge, but he couldn’t beat his rival’s best and instead had to settle for second with a 46.556.

While the top two positions proved unreachable for the rest of the pack, fellow Integro Yamaha rider Bradley Jones nabbed the final front row spot just 0.406s off the lead.

Slidecodor/Go Racing Developments rider Perrin will start fourth ahead of Tsingtao Racing’s Joe Francis, with Twyman completing the second row of the grid.
