Brands BSB: New parts boost Iddon’s performance

Christian Iddon says a new batch of upgrades on his Tyco BMW have made him more comfortable at Brands Hatch, despite not particularly enjoying the circuit.

The Stockport rider ended today third fastest behind James Ellison and Shane Byrne, but admits there aren’t big changes to be made to get him where he wants to be for Sunday’s race.

“We’ll try a few things tomorrow, but I don’t want to change anything massively because the consistency is really good and it seems quite smooth and I feel quite content.

“Brands isn’t one of my favourite tracks, but I seem to take a lot of trophies away from the place. And the bike is definitely better than what it was when we came here last year.

“There are places on the track where I absolutely sucked last year and now we’re in the ballpark. We’ve come here and run pretty much the setup that we had last year, but the upgrades on the bike are the differences.

“We’ve tried to come here with a similar balance, it’s just the fact we physically have a few different parts on the bike that we didn’t have last year.

“We’ve got a few different people in the crew that we didn’t have last year as well. We haven’t had the winter testing time to get to know each other and making sure everyone’s doing the right things, but that makes a big difference when you’re searching for hundredths.”
