Brands BSB: Post-race facts and statistics

James Ellison’s two victories at Brands have now moved him on to a career total of 14. In terms of race wins, this now makes him the 14th most successful rider ever in BSB. The Cumbrian now has a total of 60 podiums which is the ninth highest of all time. His brace at Brands saw him overhaul Sean Emmett’s total of 59.

Ellison led two races from start to finish, a total of 32 laps. The only other riders to lead races were Peter Hickman (17 laps) and Christian Iddon (1).

Byrne gave Ducati their first BSB title since 2008 when he won on the Airwaves Ducati 1098. It’s the Italian’s eighth BSB title in total.

It was Byrne’s fifth BSB title in total and also the fifth for Paul Bird Motorsport.

However, if the Championship was decided on the traditional points scoring method, rather than the Showdown, Leon Haslam would have beaten Byrne by four points, 420 to 416.

Byrne and Haslam had the highest number of race wins, taking nine each.

Byrne had the most number of podiums (16), one more than Haslam.

The highest placed rookie in the Championship was Glenn Irwin who finished 12th overall.

JG Speedfit Kawasaki won all of the races on the schedule for the third time this season, the other meetings being Cadwell Park and Assen.

The team won 13 races in total, exactly 50% of the 2016 season.

Seven riders won races in 2016 whilst 13 riders stood on the podium.

John Hopkins second place finishes on the last day of the season were his first podiums of the year and his first since the same meeting 12 months ago.

Hopkins podiums were also the first for Yamaha during the 2016 season.

Four different manufacturers won races during 2016 – Ducati, Kawasaki, Honda and BMW – with an additional two making it onto the podium, Yamaha and Suzuki.

Broc Parkes set the fastest lap of the weekend, in Q2, at 1m24.769s. This was the only sub-1m25 lap of the meeting and the fastest BSB lap ever around the circuit.
