Brands BSB: 'Rollercoaster' year ends on a high for Ellison

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison did the MCE British Superbike double at Brands Hatch and ended his ‘rollercoaster’ of a season on a high, by clinching third in the overall championship standings.

It has been a tough season for the Cumbrian who suffered a few gremlins with his ZX-10R that his team worked hard on trying to rectify. Their hard work paid off and he was able to bag maximum points on the final day of the season to take his first win of the year in race two, only to replicate his good form in the final outing at the Kent track.

Ellison’s solid points haul meant that he was able to leap frog Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot in the standings and was able to secure some silverware for his JG Speedfit team. His winning ways
have now made him more determined to return to the series next year, with the aim of securing the title.

“It has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me, we started of strong and got a few podiums and I felt good and there were a few things I was not happy about, and there was something missing. Nothing really that the team or bike were doing wrong, there was just something missing, and didn’t allow me to ride to full potential,” said Ellison at the track.

“A lot of it was to do with throttle connection mid corner, and we went through a bit of a bad patch for four rounds. We got extra guys in the team and SMR performance - and Pete Clifford who has been working for me for the last few rounds, and without them I wouldn’t be here, I would be way back.

“The team have dominated and Kawasaki have been fantastic and we have won the constructers championship and I have been part of history, and we went one, two, three at Oulton Park and the whole journey has been fantastic for me.

“It has been an enjoyable, tough and grafting year and one that has made me stronger and more focused for next year, to come back faster and to get that trophy off Shakey.”
