Brands BSB: ‘Rookie mistake’ slows Byrne

Reigning MCE British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne has admitted that a rookie mistake in yesterday’s second race at Brands Hatch left him unable to challenge winner Josh Brookes for the win.

Byrne had a massive get off in the opening race and his crew were against the clock to re-build the ZX-10R for race two. Byrne said that an arrow which usually indicates which way to wind the brake adjuster was missing and he repeatedly took it the wrong way.

“The bike was pretty secondhand after the crash and so was I. We went out and I made a few real big rookie mistakes. I messed about with the brakes, usually the guys have a little arrow on there and for some reason I kept adjusting it the wrong way,” said Byrne, speaking at the track.

“When Josh came past, he looked really settled, I had few moments and thought I had already had one 150mph get-off and didn’t really need another one. He was smooth and unflustered, so I thought fair play, he has beaten me today.”
