Brands BSB: Softer rear Pirelli tyre 'working well' for Byrne

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne set the second fastest time during the final MCE British Superbike free practice session of the day at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and lapped a 45.218 on the SC0 rear Pirelli tyre.

Byrne’s crew chief, Giovanni Crupi and his team have found a good setup going into qualifying on Sunday and only used the softer rear tyre compound today, and not the SC1 harder option.

Other racers on the grid used the two free practice sessions to test the SC1 rear, but today Byrne’s team were happy with the pace with the SCO, which ‘works very well’ at the Kent circuit, and the lap times certainly proved that today.

The Be Wiser team have tested the SC1 before, but for this weekend, so far they are staying with the softer option. On the front the SC1 is used on the Panigale. The Pirelli tyre’s have changed somewhat from 2016, and Crupi explained that the SC0 tyre is a bit harder compared to last year.

“Weekend is going quite well and we found some good setting’s for tomorrow, we have to improve a little bit but we will be there,” said Crupi, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“We are always on the soft, on the SC0. The zero for us works very well, the SC1 is always working well. We have tested it on a few occasions and there is not much difference. We would like to try the zero and go on with laps as much as possible.

“Always SC1 front for us. We have only made refining changes to the Panigale. The fact is the tyres have changed from last year. The SC0 is little bit harder than last year and the SC1 is a little bit softer so it is better for people that could use the SC1 last year, because they have a better tyre and it is not better for us so competition it is a bit more close this year.”
