Brands BSB: Stapleford dominates Supersport opener

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford stormed to his fifth Motorpoint British Supersport win of the year in dominant fashion, leading from start to finish.

Stapleford grabbed the holeshot from pole position, whereas the man to his right, Kyle Ryde, made a terrible start dropping back to fourth.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin settled into second place and appeared to be trying to go with the race leader, but on the second lap his front end washed out from beneath him and his race ended at Stirlings.

Meanwhile, Ryde battled his way through to second with a second to close down ahead of him. The pair both lapped faster than the previous lap record and Ryde clawed the gap down to half a second at half race distance.

But in the closing stages, Stapleford pushed on. The diminutive lad set a new lap record and opened out his advantage to 1.6 seconds.

He eventually took the chequered flag three and half seconds clear and in doing so took back the championship lead from Irwin. He now sits three points clear of Ryde.

Behind the leading duo, Team Traction Control teammates James Rispoli and Andy Reid were locked in a heated battle for the final podium spot.

Reid lead on the last lap but at Druids Rispoli dived underneath him, forcing Reid to sit up.

The pair went down the back straight side by side but Rispoli held the defensive inside line. However, Reid pulled off the move of the day, rolling around the outside of Rispoli to grab back third.

Rispoli tried to dive back underneath his teammate at Stirlings but Reid slammed the door shut and went on the pick up his third podium of the season.

Luke Hedger beat Sam Hornsey on the line for fifth place, the duo benefiting from Appleyard Macadam’s Danny Webb pulling off with a technical problem and Smiths Triumph’s Jake Dixon crashing out.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson took seventh place ahead of Dean Hipwell.
