Brands BSB: ‘The lap came together’ – Iddon

Bennetts Suzuki’s Christian Iddon found some phenomenal pace on his GSX-R1000 during the MCE British Superbike qualifying sessions, and set the second fastest time of a 45.440 during Q2 at the Brands Hatch Indy circuit. But not only that he went 0.02 seconds under lap record pace.

No one was more surprised by the lap, than the Stockport rider, but admitted that his quickest rotation today felt nearly perfect, but unfortunately he couldn’t replicate that pace during Q3. Consistently is the key for Suzuki man and wants to get as many laps in the mid 45’s tomorrow.

“I  am surprised really, and I was sat in seventh in Q2 and I wasn’t sure if I wasn’t going to go out, but three minute towards  the  end of the session we decided to go out and go for a lap and the bike felt good, and it's so close around here,” said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The lap came together – I don’t know how or why, but the bike never stepped out of line and did nothing wrong. In Q3 the best of the tyre had gone and we ended up eighth, and after that fast lap I was a bit revved up.We are looking at the bike now, so that we can do mid 45’s every lap, as we cant just do one – we need to be consistent.

“I am happy to get into Q3, as you are in the mix and Brands Indy is not a strong track of mine, but I feel good on the bike and the team are mega. We changed two different shock settings and two different links - and we changed the springs, but we have been doing so many laps it is making me feel dizzy!”
