BRDC boss Derek Warwick is so keen for Silverstone to keep MotoGP that he hopes the planned Circuit of Wales doesn’t happen.
Speaking at the Autosport International Show, Warwick believes that motorcycle racing has a good home at the Northamptonshire track but it could face some stiff opposition from Donington Park which is now in the paws of fellow ex-F1 driver Jonathan Palmer.
“MotoGP is very important for Silverstone,” said Warwick. “We think we have got it for the next two years, which is really good.
“I’ll talk very quickly about a certain Welsh circuit, the Circuit of Wales - I hope it doesn’t happen, I don’t think it will happen so I’m looking forward to MotoGP in the future. We have a very good crowd base at Silverstone for motorbike followers.
“We’re not just a four-wheel circuit anymore. We are also a two-wheel circuit and we get a good following for that as well.”
Silverstone has been hosting MotoGP under contract to CoW after the operation found it difficult to secure the funding to actually build a circuit.
