BSB 2015 to be a fresh start for Westmoreland

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Westmoreland is looking on the MCE British Superbike season with renewed optimism, and as a fresh start. The quiet Yorkshireman is confident that his new team and bike will help him target the Showdown and bag a few podiums when the new season kicks off in a few months time.

Westy, as he’s more commonly known had a tough 2014 on his Buildbase BMW, and was sidelined for a few rounds with a thumb injury that he sustained at Knockhill – but the lad is not one to dwell on the negatives and has put that behind him. He will “go back to zero” in order to make his mark on this years British Superbike championship, and all that preparation gets underway with testing in a few weeks time.

“Six weeks from now I will get my first chance to go out on the bike, with testing in March. We have four days in Cartagena and then Guadix  for a few days and then back in the UK, so I will have eleven days out on the bike before the first round at Donington – and I can’t wait to get started. I feel this is the best position I have been in and I can’t wait to make the most of it,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The bike even just sitting on it feels really nice. The bike is not ready yet and there is still a lot to do. I am not nervous at all I am just really excited and everyone who rides a Kawasaki goes real good - the biggest thing is the way we go testing and we have to make the most of that.

“To go to Donington for the first round having all that testing behind you is really great. My new team-mate, James Ellison is a great person to learn from and he’s a really nice person and I am looking forward to working with him.

“We go back to zero and start again, and its my opportunity to show everyone how well I can do, and its my best chance to do well. I have made the Showdown before and I know I can do it again.”
