Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne will look at his data from the second MCE British Superbike race at Cadwell Park after he experienced more rear tyre wear in the second race, than in the opening one at the Lincolnshire track.
Byrne was slightly puzzled as his team made no big changes to his Panigale and he kept exactly the same choice of tyres from the first race, where he clinched a tight victory from JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam, and continued to run with the SC0 rear tyres and the softer front SC1 Pirelli’s.
The multiple champ tried really hard on track but felt that the bike was moving a bit more in the second race. But he still managed to make it on to the podium not once, but twice, as he came away with a third place finish in race two, to add to his previous victory in race one.
Byrne still leads the championship and has won his place in the Showdown, and has a 21 point lead over Haslam in the overall standings.
“I tried really hard in the second race and the bike felt it was moving a bit more in the second race. I looked at the tyre at the end of the race and it is considerably more worn than the two guys in front of me,” said Byrne after race two.
“I am not sure why [the tyre had more wear] as the bike is exactly the same as it was in the first race, so we will have to look at that and check the data. I really like Cadwell Park even though it has been a bit unlucky for me in the past few years and to come away with a win and back that up with a podium I cant be disappointed that’s for sure.”
After race one Byrne added: “I knew I had to be in front by the bottom of the mountain because Leon was really strong into Park and I couldn’t do to Leon what I did managed to do on Jason.
“So I saw Leon run hot into Chris Curve a couple of times and run right to the outside of the track and I thought roll in there nice and smooth on the throttle and maintain loads of momentum.
“I was watching him from the corner of my eye and I was thinking I am going to get through, I am going to get through and in the end I went through and blocked the rest of the lap a bit and managed to pull off the win. My tyres felt really good after the race too.”
