Cadwell BSB: Double podium success for Hickman

RAF Reserves BMW’s Peter Hickman bounced back from a crash on Saturday to come away with two MCE British Superbike second place finishes at his home track of Cadwell Park, and the rider couldn’t be happier after his maiden double podium in the championship.

The Louth rider has had a tough few rounds this year, but his bad luck appears to be over and on the back of a successful Ulster GP he has kept up his podium momentum, with two rostrum finishes today.

In both races Hickman was caught up in a battle with eventual race winner, Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and even though he couldn’t out-pace the R1 rider he still had the edge over Smiths Racing’s Billy McConnell in race one and Tyco BMW’s Tommy Bridewell in race two.

Hickman now hopes that he has proved some of his doubters wrong, who think that he is only capable of doing well in wet conditions. But it was beautiful and sunny at the Lincolnshire track today and the road racing star is looking forward to keeping up his good formgoing  into the next round at Oulton.

“It has been a bit of an up and down weekend, but I am a bit battered and bruised as we had a set back yesterday and I had a big high-side but today has been tough, but we managed to pull it out of the bag - the bike has been mint,” said Hickman, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“It is nice that it is at my home round and it is good to put an end to the doubters that say that I am only a wet weather specialist. Today has been really hot and I had a double podium and it is good to put one up to them lot in front of the home crowds.

“We have had a lot of bad luck and I broke my back and neck earlier in the year, and now it has finally come good again for us. I went to the Ulster GP and I had three podiums including a win and that was only a week ago, and I have five podiums in a row.

“Fingers crossed we can have a good start at Oulton Park too, as last time I didn’t make it out for the races because of my injury.”
