Cadwell BSB: Ellison back in Showdown contention after solid points gain

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison can take some positives away from the MCE British Superbike round at Cadwell Park, as a sixth in race one and an eighth place finish in race two meant that he was able to make it back into the top six in the overall standing’s, and is back in Showdown contention.

The Cumbrian is struggling slightly with throttle connection and his team have been working hard to make steps to rectify the issue. His crew have got a plan in place, with the hopes of another test soon.

Ellison has a total of 140 points and seven podium credits, and the ZX-10R racer is confident that he can get back to fighting with the leaders at the next round of Oulton Park, to maintain his place in the all important Showdown.

“Fairly happy - I think the only thing I think we can take from this weekend is that we got back into the Showdown. Which is the important thing and we are still searching for that connection I need with the throttle to be able to ride the bike how I want to,” said Ellison, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“We made some good steps forward and the team have worked their asses off. Away from this they have put so much effort into this and Mark has spent a fortune on a two day test and we did actually find some good direction. Then we come back here and the weather is slightly different and it has changed the whole set up again and all three of us were complaining about the same
thing.

“It has effected my riding style more than the other two. This area where I am having this delay with the throttle is on the side of the tyre and I carry a lot of corner speed. So I need that connection, and at the minute we have got this bit of delay and when it does come in it comes in with a big surge and sends you off line, and sends the rear into a spin or it picks the front wheel up.

“That is our main focus to try and fix that. We have got a bit of a plan together for after here to try get a bit of a test day to try and cure it. I know if we can we can fight at the front with the front guys, and even with the issues I had this weekend we were still right there.

“But we are not there in qualifying so we didn’t fight with the leaders but we see them on the same start and finish straight, so it is tough. But the positive to take out of it is that the points haul we made means we are back in the Showdown so we have got to be happy.”
