Cadwell BSB: Stapleford takes Supersport win

Profile Triumph’s Luke Stapleford claimed his fifth Motorpoint British Supersport win on the bounce, after breaking clear of teenage talents Kyle Ryde and Jake Dixon.

The championship leader was forced into second place after Gearlink Kawasaki’s Glenn Irwin took the holeshot but before a lap could be completed the red flag was brought out.

From the restart, Stapleford took the holeshot from pole position with Kyle Ryde tucked in behind.

The duo bought themselves an advantage of half a second, with Floridian James Rispoli battling with Smiths Triumph’s Dixon behind.

Dixon battled past Rispoli and began to chase down the duo ahead of him, posting a new lap record en route.

The trio eventually came together with three laps remaining but just as Dixon arrived, Stapleford checked out.

Renowned for his ability to be fast on new and old tyres, as the track temperature played it’s part with tyre deterioration for the rest of the field, Stapleford just got quicker.

Eventually coming home 1.6 seconds clear, the battle came down to Ryde and Dixon for the remaining podium places.

Dixon got up the inside at Park but ran wide handing second back to Ryde and despite multiple big looks and lunges, Ryde held strong to take second.

Limiting Stapleford to just a five point advantage, Ryde is now 33 points adrift of the Profile Triumph man in the title standings.

Rispoli grabbed fourth place ahead of a disappointed Glenn Irwin. The Gearlink Kawasaki man looked strong before the red flag came out, then on the grid before the restart the Northern Irishman was wilding gesticulating towards his crew indicating some sort of problem.

Traction Control’s Andy Reid came across the line in sixth place ahead of local favourite Ben Wilson.
