Series leader Leon Haslam has revealed plans to change his engine spec after unearthing characteristics he didn’t have in a recent test.

The Cadwell Park lap record holder led this morning’s opening free practice session a mere 0.009s clear of Jake Dixon, but missed out this afternoon in the second session as Dixon led over half a second clear of Danny Buchan and nearly three quarters of a second ahead of Haslam.

Haslam admitted that he struggled today with a small problem that he and the JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad didn’t experience during testing at the Lincolnshire circuit.

But with a plot to ditch the current power plant and go back to what he had previously on his ZX10, as well as comfort with his place on used rubber, he feels he’s in a strong position going into tomorrow’s qualifying.

“We’ve been having a little issue just compared to what we had here in the test, the bike’s not quite reacting the same from the engine,” he told Bikesport News.

“We have got a different engine spec so we’re looking to probably go back to what we had at the test.

“But we were quickest this morning after an 18-lap run on a tyre and I never put a new tyre in that second session as well.

“We’re not too far away but we’ve got a few things we just want to make a little bit better.”
