Cadwell BSB: McConnell scores maiden Superbike rostrum

Smiths Racing’s Billy McConnell fought hard to win his debut MCE British Superbike podium in race-one at Cadwell Park, and not only was it a day of firsts for the Australian rider it was also the maiden podium awarded to the Smiths team in the class too.

He wasn’t able to replicate his rostrum in race-two and finished in a respectable sixth, but the current Motorpoint British Supersport champion can now see the ‘light at the end of the tunnel.’

McConnell has been working hard on his mental strength and self belief, that he can bag some serious points in the blue riband class. He is really grateful to his team that have been working hard on developing his S1000RR and the hard work paid off today.

“It has been a fantastic weekend, with a third and a sixth result. There is a lot of light at the end of the tunnel and after all the hard work and effort we have put in it is good to pay them back with a third,” said McConnell, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.

“We will keep doing our best and I am really grateful for the team, and onwards and upwards going into Oulton.

“I have a bit more self belief and I am trying to visualise seeing the end result and that has helped me. Cadwell has always been really good for me, but the test is to see how we get on at Oulton.”
