Cadwell BSB: Podium points the focus for Glenn Irwin

Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin is solely focused on Showdown podium credits at this weekend’s Cadwell Park Bennetts British Superbike round as he has a 44-point margin over the competition.

Irwin, who suffered with grip over race distance at Thruxton, has tested at Cadwell this year and set his personal best lap-time so is feeling confident of remaining in front of Bradley Ray and Danny Buchan.

“I think Thruxton was disappointing as we went there on a bit of a high and then during free practice and qualifying we were fast and then it didn’t come together in the races, but that weekend is done now and I am looking forward to Cadwell Park as we had a good test there recently.

“To be honest I am only looking at the podium points because that is what is important when it comes to the Showdown. The boys behind have some ground to make up in the standings, so I just need to focus on getting the job done and getting back on the podium.

“We feel good to go for Cadwell Park; we were missing something there before and then we went there for the test and I set my fastest ever lap there and felt that it was a good step forward. I don’t feel like we got beat at Thruxton, we just didn’t have what we needed in the race and we want to be back on the podium this weekend at Cadwell Park. Our aim is to close the gap in the Podium Points to Leon, especially as we have only five more races before the Showdown.”
