Cadwell BSB: Ray takes dominant Supersport pole

FAB-Racing’s Brad Ray took his second Dickies British Supersport pole position on the bounce in impressive fashion, getting to within a tenth of Luke Stapleford’s fastest ever lap to go pole by just under half a second.

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Mason Law held pole for the majority of the session but Ray leaped ahead of him in the closing stages. However, despite a late charge from James Westmoreland, Law was able to hold on to second place.

Westmoreland’s penultimate lap was enough though to see him round out the front row of the grid for this afternoon’s sprint race. His Came BPT Yamaha teammate Joe Francis sits a place further back in fourth, 0.9 of a second adrift of Ray.

Northern Irishman Andy Reid struggled early in the session but after a lengthy stop in pitlane, the Quattro Plant Kawasaki man managed to find some pace to lift him up to fifth quickest. He will be joined on the second row of the grid by compatriot, Andrew Irwin.

A engine blow yesterday meant Luke Jones was severely down on track time, but despite this, the Hereford rider was still able to place himself at the front of the third row of the grid in seventh. EHA Racing’s Ross Twyman and CF Motorsport’s Ben Currie will complete row three.

The big story to come from the 30 minute session was the lack of pace from championship leader Tarran Mackenzie. Apparently struggling with gearing, the WD40 Kawasaki man will have to defend his six point championship lead from row five of the grid after qualifying thirteenth.
