Camier makes chassis progress despite rain-lashed testing

MV Agusta’s Leon Camier has made some progress with the F4RR he will race next season despite almost all of his World Superbike pre-season testing being subject to rain.

The former BSB champion rode in the rain at Jerez at the the end of last year and then a two-day test this week at Portimao was also wet, with only half-a-day with the track drying out but he says he has made some chassis and electronics progress.

“We rode in the rain on the first day. We weren’t exactly rushing to get in and out but but we got through a lot of stuff, even in the rain. Second day, we went out on wets in the morning and I didn’t do many laps, then waited for it to dry, we got half a day dry time,” said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com from behind a beard he says has been 28 years in the making.

“We got a lot of chassis work done, making it a lot stiffer and get it feeling a bit more like I want it. By the end of the day it was cold and there was only so much we could do. I had to put my rain visor on, it was so dark at the end. It was worth it because we needed every minute out on track.

“The main things were to get the chassis sorted, do some work on the electronics to a point where the strategies are in the right direction but there is a hell of a lot more work to be done. Everyone else has been fine tuning for years but we are starting from scratch.”

Camier’s team are now crating up the bikes for Phillip Island and will not test with most of the rest of the WSBK field at Jerez on Monday and Tuesday, preferring to travel to Australia and acclimatise before two days of official testing prior to round one.
