Camier pleased with new engine spec ahead of Portimao WorldSBK

Red Bull Honda's Leon Camier says he is pleased with the upgraded engine spec ahead of the Portimao WorldSBK but adds he won't know how good it is until he is with different riders on track.

The Andorra resident completed three days of testing at the Portugese track - still suffering the effects of his big crash at Suzuka - and was able to make some comparisons between his own Fireblade and the works Eight-Hour bike.

"There were a few things on their bike that were interesting but there are a few things on this bike that I think are better, so we're not thinking that if they come on board more we will have the best this, the best that, there's a lot of work needs to be done even if they do," said Camier, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

At Portimao, Camier had the new engine plus some chassis parts and said he could feel an improvement.

"We tried the new engine, the feeling is quite positive, there are a few things that need to be changed with it like the mapping but the raw feeling is there is more torque which is what we need from it. Until we get against other riders it is hard to tell but from some low rpm corners here, it feels like it drives better.

"Everyone keeps upping their level, Yamaha have pulled their finger out, Ducati is strong, Kawasaki is the benchmark, it's hard to catch up and make big steps. We're still missing a little bit with turning, a little bit with power for sure but we need to check with other riders on track."
