Darley Moor round three: Race weekend preview

This Bank Holiday weekend will see the action return to the Darley Moor circuit, near Wyaston, when Round 3 of the Darley Moor Motorcycle Road Race Championship takes place on Monday 4th May 2015.

With the absence of several competitors, through machine failure or racing in National Championships during the early Rounds the Championships are looking a little different, but still with a very small points advantage or even with the leaders tied on points.

This weekend, in addition to the regular silverware available there is the Curtis Milner Trophy which will be presented to the Overall winner of the two Formula 600 races. Jamie Medhurst (Long Eaton) and Richard Wardle (Stoke on Trent) will certainly be amongst the favourites for the Trophy, which is in memory of a young racer who started his racing career at Darley Moor, but unfortunately lost his life in a road traffic accident. It is hoped that Curtis’ parents, Craig and Tina, will be on hand once again to present the winner with the Trophy.
With regards to current Championship standings the Pre Injection 600 and GP125 classes have two riders tied at the top; the Pre Injection 600 with riders from Stone at the top; Andy Lowe and Robert Wise then the GP125’s with Derek Clarke (Hull) and Richard Mortimer (Bolton) all with 18 points.

Four classes have the top two riders separated by just a single point; Brendan Brown (Newcastle under Lyme) holds the slight advantage over Jamie Medhurst in the Peak Cup, whilst Shane Pearson (Derby) has the advantage over Brown in the Open Solo class. In the Sound of Thunder class Gary Henriksen (Matlock) holds the slim margin over Matthew Harwood (Snelston), while Brad Vicars (Tadcaster) holds the same over rival David Carson (Northwich) Mini Sound of Thunder.

These two competitors are also locked ‘in combat’ in the Formula Darley class, Vicars doubling the advantage in this category. Chris Moore (High Peak) heads the Lightweight class from Matty Whelan (Barsnley) and Jamie Pearson (Derby) over Virgil Stevenson (Derby) in the Pre98’s (up to 1300cc), both with a two point advantage over their rivals.

Anthony Porter (Chesterfield) and Brian Prescott (Burton) both enjoy a 3 point advantage over their rivals in the Steel Framed 600 and Classic 350 respectively; Dean Ephgrave (Hucknall) and David Glover (Messingham) both looking to overturn or bridge the gap.
