Misano WSBK: Davies MotoGP move unlikely for 2017

Chaz Davies says he has no interest in making the move from World Superbike to MotoGP if he cannot get on competitive machinery.

The Welshman was speaking after a scintillating performance at Misano where, after a first lap disaster that saw him fall to 20th, he sliced through the pack to take fourth.

Aruba.it Ducati rider Davies is currently at an advanced stage of discussions with Ducati to remain with their factory-back World Superbike team and would like to do so.

When asked whether the opportunity remained to move to MotoGP for next season, the 29-year-old was direct about his situation.

“Probably not, honestly in MotoGP but in the meantime I’d rather stay here and concentrate on this program in the case that I can’t get a good bike in MotoGP,” he answered.

“If obviously a great opportunity with factory support, factory technicians, turned up in MotoGP – I couldn’t ignore that – but at the moment there isn’t that possibility.

“We’re speaking about it, but it’s not going to happen for next year. Yeah Pramac would definitely be the possibility, but it would be a good possibility with the right technicians.

“I’ve been there before, and anything less than a fair chance to be fair to myself I won’t bother. I’m not going to go and waste my time at nearly 30 years of age to go and try and be happy with a tenth place, that not what I’m interested in.”
