Donington BSB: Currie steals Supersport victory

Gearlink Kawasaki's Ben Currie stole victory in this afternoon's Supersport sprint race after winning a race-long battle with Jack Kennedy.

And it was never anything but a two-horse race as the duo crossed the line nearly 15 seconds clear of trouble.

But the two protagonists managed to avoid a spectacular incident on the sighting lap that left RS-Racing team-mates Josh Owens and Eugene McManus unable to start the race after their GP2 machines collided.

When the eight-lap race got underway, pole-sitter Kennedy and the German-born Australian were in a race of their own as they both launched into the distance, with Brad Jones and James Westmoreland giving chase.

By lap two, Currie and Kennedy, constantly attacking each other, already led Westmoreland and the rest of the pack by over four seconds.

American James Rispoli was on a charge from his third-row starting position as he pass Westmoreland to take third place on lap four, but the Everquip Racing rider's hopes were dashed when the Craner Club welcomed him with open arms, walking away from his seemingly-scrapped R6 caked in mud.

Kennedy looked to be on for victory at the front, but Currie's Kawasaki powered ahead down the Dunlop Straight to give him the win, while EHA Racing's Ross Twyman took his second-ever podium in third.
