Donington BSB: Linfoot pleased with first podium of the year

Honda Racing’s Dan Linfoot was happy to bring his machine home third in today’s Bennetts British Superbike Championship race after mechanical issues hit.

After storming through from the second row to move into second place in the opening lap, Linfoot was powerless to stop Leon Haslam’s JG Speedfit Kawasaki stealing the spot from him later in the race.

And in the end, he was happy to be able to keep ahead of the rest to score his first podium finish of the year.

“In the race today we had a lot more water on the track than yesterday, so I focused on making a strong start and getting some clear track straight away,” he explained.

“I looked up into turn one and saw Brad already starting to check out so I thought ‘there’s someone to chase straight away’. I tried to set a good pace from the start and hopefully make it easier later on in the race because I feel I’m lacking a bit in the middle.

“Leon came by with maybe 10 to go, and then I was suddenly hit with a mechanical It was pretty much race over from there. I knew we had a big gap over fourth place so I knew I needed to just try and power on.”

Following his fourth place finish in Easter Sunday’s race, today’s result propelled him to third in the championship chase with 29 points, and he heads home feeling confident about the year ahead.

“I’m happy with that, my first podium of the season,” he added. “It’s a long year, you certainly can’t win the championship this weekend but the way we’ve had it so far with the weather, you could really do yourself some damage.

“So I’m really happy to stay on all weekend, and not put myself or the team back due to any crashes.”
