Donington BSB: O'Halloran slips to fifth in Showdown standings after DNF

Honda Racing's Jason O'Halloran had a mixed MCE British Superbike weekend. The Australian finished on the podium in third place in race one, but crashed out at the Old Hairpin in race two at Donington Park.

The DNF means he slips back down to fifth overall, and was joint third coming into the tenth round of the championship. He has been leap frogged by team-mate Dan Linfoot and JG Speedfit Kawasaki's James Ellison in the standings.

The Fireblade rider did change tyres from the SC1 front to the harder option SC2 Pirelli's, and was looking on course to make it on to the podium for a second time in one day, but a first lap tumble meant his rostrum dreams were dashed.

"Unfortunately I got taken out in the  second race on the first lap. The Showdown system is great but it’s really hurt us today. I’ve been third in the championship for half the year but because of today I’m back down to fifth. It’s going to be tough now but we’re just going to have to put our head down and see what we can do in the next one," said O'Halloran after the crash.

Speaking after race one O'Halloran at the track added: "It was a tough race starting from the third row of the grid was always going to be difficult. Yesterday with the temperature being down we really struggled with grip and we couldn't get the bike to work and I was not overly confident coming into today.

"We made a couple of big changes for us in warm up and we changed the front folk springs and a few other things and it actually turned out really well for us and I was comfortable and confident. I came from a long way back and worked hard during the race and we made a clean pass on James at the Foggy Esses. The soft tyre is working great for us."
